Pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo‘s debut album Sour, which dropped in 2021, has become the most streamed album by a female artist in Spotify history.

According to a press release, Sour “earned the most U.S. audio streams for a female debut album ever and broke the record for the most-streamed album in a week by a female artist on Spotify.”

The album entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 and became “the longest-running debut album in the chart’s top 10 of the 21st century.”

Sour was released on May 21, 2021 by Geffen Records. The album was written by Rodrigo and producer Dan Nigro. Originally planned as an EP, Sour was expanded into a full-length album following the viral success of Rodrigo’s debut single, “Drivers License.”

Three singles preceded Sour‘s release, all of which entered the top three of the Billboard Hot 100. The lead single, “Drivers License”, topped the chart and propelled Rodrigo to mainstream prominence. It was followed by “Deja Vu”, which peaked at number 3, and “Good 4 U,” the album’s second chart-topper.
