Lady A received a surprised invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry during the Grammy-winning group’s performance taping for the upcoming NBC special, “Grand Ole Opry: 95 Years of Country Music.”
Opry member Darius Rucker extended the invitation to band members Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood on the Opry stage Thursday and announced that their membership is effective immediately.
Introducing the group for their performance in the special, Rucker said, “I feel so honored to stand here in the Opry House and say if they accept the invitation I am thrilled to be offering them on behalf of all of us at the Opry right now, they are also about to add one more honor to that list by becoming official members of the Grand Ole Opry!”
The invitation and the group’s first performance as Opry members will be shared with fans and viewers when the 2-hour television special goes on air on February 14 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
Grand Ole Opry members Brad Paisley and Blake Shelton will serve as co-hosts of the show.
One of the biggest groups in country music history, Lady A are multi-platinum superstars, seven-time Grammy Award winners and seven-time CMA award winners.
“This is the best surprise we could ever ask for,” Hillary Scott said. “I’ve been coming here since I was a little girl so to say we are honored is an understatement. We are so truly grateful to officially be a part of this amazing family.”
